  • Spread weight using the best equipment available.
  • Minimum number of personnel required to carry out task safely to be on the ice at any one time.
  • Forward control point set up on firm ground to control personel going onto ice.
  • Full training in the use of dry suits and bouyancy aids to be given if used.
  • All personnel passing forward control point to be attached by line to safe ground.
  • I.C. to have full view of access route to casualty to allow full control.
  • All lines to be controlled throughout entire incident by competent person using line signals as per Fire Service Training Manual part 3.
  • The provision and use of dry suits and bouyancy aids.
