Rescue team eyes Melrose fire station base

  • 12-21-2015

Plans have been unveiled for a mountain rescue team to move its base into a former fire station in the Borders.

The Melrose site has been empty for a number of years after the decision was taken to provide cover from Galashiels.

Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue is making a joint bid with the first aid charity St John to convert it into its base and training centre.

The group was originally based in Galashiels but has operated out of Selkirk for the last 25 years.

It has around 40 volunteers who provide assistance to the emergency services.

A full planning application for converting the former fire station will be considered by Scottish Borders Council over the coming weeks.
