  • 12-8-2015

Firefighters in Durham and Teesside were called out more than 200 times to help people affected by flooding, including two women stranded in a car.

The Durham and Darlington Fire Service said staff from all of its 15 stations were involved after the River Tees burst its bank in Croft.

Stanhope, Barnard Castle and Middleton-in-Teesdale in the Dales area were affected, the service said.

Firefighters were mainly involved in pumping water from flooded homes.

The two stranded women were carried to safety by firefighters after the A167 in Croft flooded.

Acting chief fire officer, Stuart Errington, said: "I'm extremely proud of all of the work our crews, control staff and officers have carried out over the weekend.

"They have, as usual, stood up to the challenges and gone the extra mile to keep the public safe."
