House fire after e-cigarette left charging in Bangor

  • 10-2-2015

An overheated electronic cigarette left on charge caused a house fire in Bangor.

Three crews were called to Ffriddoedd Road at about 18:00 BST yesterday, after an e-cigarette is thought to have ignited on a bed.

Two of the five students living at the property escaped uninjured.

Fire officers have warned people of the dangers of not using electrical items correctly, saying the blaze could have been "much worse".

'Extra care needed'

Terry Williams from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "The incident highlights how quickly a fire can spread - and the importance of using electrical items correctly and operating them according to the manufacturer's instructions.

"The experience of fire and rescue services across the UK is that e-cigarettes can carry an increased risk of fire and we would urge that extra care is needed when using them."
