Emergency fire exercise at Bath's only tower block

  • 7-2-2015

Firefighters have urged the public not to panic about a large number of "casualties" and crews in Bath.

Bath Fire Station tested its emergency response to a simulated fire at Berkeley House in Snow Hill - the city's only tower block - at 10:00 BST.

Exercise Nightingale saw people in need of rescue from the top floors.

Synthetic smoke was used to make the "incident" as realistic as possible and three fire engines and a turntable ladder were sent to the scene.

Before the exercise, Matt Hunt of Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "People may notice a number of fire engines and firefighters in the area.

"The aim of this exercise is to test our response in the event of a real fire at these flats.

"These opportunities allow us to ensure we are fully prepared in the event of a real emergency and reassure members of the public that we are ready to respond if there is a fire."
