  • 10-7-2013

Two people have escaped to safety after their mobile home was set on fire in a suspected arson attack in Surrey.

Emergency services were called to the fire, near the Dog and Duck pub in Prince of Wales Road, Outwood, shortly after 01:00 BST.

Police said two people were inside the caravan when the fire started but neither was injured.

The fire destroyed the mobile home and damaged a nearby outbuilding and equipment.

'Smelling of petrol'

Members of the public reported seeing a man approach the caravan shortly before the fire and pour a suspected accelerant over it.

Det Con Lewis Flanagan said the fire could have had a tragic outcome.

"We need assistance from the public to track down those responsible," he said.

"Anyone who saw the man who approached the mobile home shortly before the incident or who saw anyone acting suspiciously should call Surrey Police as a matter of urgency.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who knows someone who came home smelling of petrol."
