Middlesbrough fire station to be replaced

  • 1-20-2013

A new state-of-the-art fire station is to be built in Middlesbrough.

Cleveland Fire Brigade plans to build the new community station to replace the current Middlesbrough Fire Station on Park Road South.

The brigade said that as well as being a new home for the fire service, the building would be accessible to the public for community services.

Chief fire officer Ian Hayton said the station would be at the "heart of the community".

There will also be a mini fire station built so the brigade can provide activities for children and young people.

Mr Hayton said: "Middlesbrough Fire Station was built in 1939 and has a lot of history, including the tower which will be preserved through this redevelopment.

"We have looked at many options in order to bring our facility at the Park Road South site up to date and to ensure that we have a development which will serve the community proud throughout the 21st Century.

"We see this station being at the heart of the community, as local residents will be able to utilise the facilities as well as enabling us to offer educational opportunities and to work more closely with schools and the community."

Stockton-based architects Atkins are designing the building.
