Nuneaton rescuers award recommendations

  • 9-5-2012

Three men who rescued a woman from a fire in Warwickshire have been recommended for bravery awards.

Josh Hadley, Jamie Starkey and Simon House pulled her from a burning flat in Lexington Court, Nuneaton, on Friday morning, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

A dog died in the fire and Incident Commander Craig Snowden said the woman was just "seconds away from death".

Mr Snowden said the woman's family also wanted to thank them for their actions.

He said: "They took the initiative and in a fire the difference between life and death can actually be seconds.

"Probably another 30 seconds to a minute at that property and the woman wouldn't be here."

He said the three men had been passing the property when they heard a woman screaming for help from an upstairs window.

After breaking down the front door, Mr Snowden said the men had pulled the woman, who was still conscious, to safety.

Despite praising their bravery, he said the men had also put their own lives in danger.
