Brake lever embedded in boy's leg in Wickhamford

  • 8-17-2012

A teenage cyclist was airlifted to hospital after getting a brake lever lodged in his thigh.

The boy had come off his bike in woods in Wickhamford near Evesham in Worcestershire on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews walked about half a mile to reach the boy before cutting the lever from the bike.

With the lever still embedded in his leg, the boy was carried through the woods on a stretcher and then airlifted to hospital.

Watch commander Russell Broadbent from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "This must have been a frightening ordeal for the lad, but he was extremely calm and brave throughout, despite having to wait some time for emergency services staff to reach him on foot."
