Firefighters tackle rural blazes

  • 2-4-2012

Firefighters have been tackling two large blazes at rural properties in the Highlands and Aberdeenshire.

In the first incident, a fire broke out at a remote house on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, shortly after 20:30 on Friday.

Meanwhile, Grampian Fire and Rescue Service was called to a blaze at a storage building on a farm at 06:00.

The property at Cluny Home Farm was said to have been be "well alight" but was quickly brought under control.

Fire services confirmed there were no reports of any casualties as a result of the incidents.

Crews from Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service were still at the scene of the Ardnamurchan fire, in the Sanna and Kilchoan area, as they worked to bring the blaze under control.

The fire is believed to have started in the loft area and it is thought that the single-storey property has been extensively damaged by the fire.

A fire service spokeswoman said: "We're making steady progress but we're being hampered by high winds so the crews will be in attendance for some time yet."
