Crash delays West Midlands M42 traffic

  • 9-29-2011

Drivers faced rush-hour delays when a lorry hit the central reservation, spilling 450 litres of fuel on to the M42 in the West Midlands.

The fire service was called to the southbound carriageway between junction six, near the NEC, and five, near Solihull, shortly before 03:30 BST.

Two lanes were closed northbound and one of the southbound lanes. They have since reopened.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said there were no injuries.

The Highways Agency said the lane closures had been put in place for barrier repair work and to allow them to check if the fuel had damaged the motorway surface.

Recovery vehicles were called to deal with the lorry and all lanes reopened about 15:10 BST.
