Fire at Hilton Hotel in Mayfair tackled by London crews

  • 7-2-2011

Fire crews have brought a blaze at the Hilton Hotel in London's Park Lane under control.

The fire broke out in the kitchen just after 1840 BST on Friday and spread to the basement and second floor of the five-star Mayfair hotel.

About 1,500 guests were evacuated from the building, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.

Earlier in the day the hotel hosted a music awards ceremony attended by Liza Minnelli and Annie Lennox.

Tinie Tempah was also at the Silver Clef Awards to pick up a Newcomer Award.

The LFB said about 40 firefighters dealt with the fire. Everyone in the 28-floor building has been accounted for.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) confirmed there were no fire-related injuries but said an elderly woman was treated by paramedics after falling unwell.

Fire engines from Soho, Knightsbridge and Westminster attended the blaze at the building, which overlooks Hyde Park.
