Grass fire tackled at Shropshire nature reserve

  • 4-13-2011

Crews have tackled a grass fire over 4.5 hectares at a nature reserve in Shropshire.

Six appliances attended Catherton Common in the Clee Hills on Tuesday afternoon and the fire was brought under control within about two hours.

Two fire engines from Kidderminster and one from Cleobury Mortimer, Bewdley, Tenbury and Ludlow were deployed.

In 2009 Shropshire Wildlife Trust bought Catherton Common near Cleobury Mortimer for £125,000.

Crews were called at 1420 BST on Tuesday and the fire was under control by about 1630 BST.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service refused to comment as to what might have started the fire.
