People missing after major fire in centre of Croydon

Firefighters are still searching for people who are unaccounted for after a major fire broke out in the centre of Croydon, south London.

Flames could be seen coming from all three floors and the roof of a building on Southbridge Place, near to the Croydon Flyover.

London Fire Brigade said it had sent six engines and 30 crew members to the scene and the operation was continuing.

The building involved is located close to the offices of Croydon Council.

The fire service said it was unable to say how many people were trying to be traced.
