_49980962_dsc_8270.jpgA seven-year-old boy suffered serious leg injuries when he was struck by a tram in south London.

The incident happened at about 0800 GMT at Fieldway tram stop in Lodge Lane, Addington, in Croydon.

He has since been taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting where his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and he is in a stable condition.

British Transport Police (BTP) said: "At this stage it appears to have been an accident."

Family at bedside

Tramlink services between Addington Village and New Addington, which were earlier suspended for investigations, have resumed.

A BTP spokesman said: "The incident was reported to police at 8.04am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"He is currently at St George's Hospital in Tooting, along with his family."

A spokeswoman for London Fire brigade said: "The child was trapped and released by firefighters using specialist lifting equipment and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service."
