Derelict pub fire arson inquiry in Cambridgeshire

  • 9-6-2010

A fire at a derelict pub in Cambridgeshire was started deliberately, the fire service has said.

More than 25 firefighters worked through the early hours at the former Blackfriars Arms in Whitby Street, Wisbech.

Four crews were called at 0040 BST and put out the fire within six hours.

Some crews stayed on to dampen any hotspots and an initial inquiry confirmed arson, the fire service said.

A structural engineer declared most of the building structurally unsafe.

The site is due to be inspected again later.
