  • 7-28-2010

_48513477_carshrop304.jpgTwo members of the public pulled a 73-year-old man out of a car amid fears it could burst into flames after the vehicle ended up upside down in an embankment.

Ambulance staff were told an Audi and a small car collided on the A41 between Cosford and Albrighton, in Shropshire.

The 73-year-old man, from Pattingham, Staffordshire, suffered a broken rib in the crash on Tuesday afternoon.

The ambulance service said the man had a "very, very lucky escape".

A 69-year-old woman in the second car was checked over, but was not injured.

The crash, near to RAF Cosford, happened at about 1655 BST.

The Audi rolled off the A41 and went through trees. The male driver was taken to hospital.
