Homes in Swansea 'cut off' by flooding

  • 7-20-2010

Serious flooding in parts of Swansea has cut off homes after a river burst its banks.

A road in the Birchgrove area is reported to be flooded, with fire crews requesting a boat to assess the situation.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the river burst its banks cutting off houses in the street.

Other flooding incidents have been reported in Glais, near Swansea, and Skewen near Neath.

An elderly woman is reported to be trapped in her house by several feet of water at Graigola Road, Glais.

The fire service said it had been inundated with calls about flooding in the Swansea area.

In November last year, a number of streets in the Birchgrove area were flooded when a mountain stream became blocked and water was diverted through a housing estate.

Flood water has also been reported in Powys on the A470 between the B4358 (Newbridge-on-Wye) and A44 (Llangurig).

There has also been flooding on the A5152 Grosvenor Road in Wrexham.
