  • 7-12-2010

A 19-year-old man has been charged with arson after a fire destroyed a Tesco store in Hampshire.

The manager evacuated the express store at the Westbrook Centre in Grassmere Way, Waterlooville, when the fire started on Wednesday evening.

Police said the fire was thought to have begun when bread bins were set alight outside.

The teenager, from Havant, is due to appear before Portsmouth Magistrates' Court later.

A 37-year-old man who worked at the store received minor burns in the incident.

Det Con Emma Cooke said: "We would like to thank the assistance of the public with this incident.

"Their timely phone calls to emergency services and witness accounts have helped us greatly with this investigation."
