Bin fire campaign begins on estate where boy died

  • 7-12-2010

Police have started a wheelie bin fire safety campaign on a Northamptonshire estate where a three-year-old boy died.

Callum Bland died when fire swept through his home in Fulmar Lane, Wellingborough, in 2007.

The fire started when a wheelie bin next to the house was set alight.

The campaign was launched on the Hemmingwell estate on Monday and follows a renewed appeal for information about the fire.

Det Ch Insp Ian Oliver said earlier that he was "convinced" someone had information about the identity of the offender.

A murder inquiry was started by Northamptonshire Police but nobody was ever prosecuted for the crime.

Callum's mother Jayne, her partner and three other children escaped the fire.

In December 2008 an inquest into his death recorded an open verdict.
