Hampshire couple flee suspected arson attack

  • 7-8-2010

A Hampshire couple escaped a house fire unharmed following what police believe was an arson attack.

The fire started at the front of a property in Barbel Avenue, Basingstoke, at about 1225 BST.

Hampshire police said a neighbour managed to wake up the occupants, who were asleep upstairs, and they left the property safely.

A spokesman said: "This was a very serious incident and the consequences could have been much worse."

Det Con Dan Leese, of Basingstoke CID, said: "We want to hear from anyone who was in the Barbel Avenue area just after midnight and saw anything suspicious."
