Fire crews rescue woman stranded on roof

A woman has been rescued by firefighters after scrambling onto the roof of her flat in Essex to escape her smoke-filled home.

Dense smoke permeated the flat on London Road, Hadleigh, after a car fire near the entrance to the property, Essex Fire and Rescue Service said.

The woman who is in her 30s was brought down a ladder by firefighters.

She was suffering from smoke inhalation and was treated by paramedics.

A joint Police and Fire Service investigation will be carried out into the cause of the fire which started at about 0040 BST.
