  • 7-7-2010

A large area of heathland in Hampshire has been hit by fire which took crews more than five hours to bring under control.

Nearly 50 firefighters were called to land at Hazeley Heath Road, Hazeley Heath, near Hook, on Tuesday afternoon.

Up to 40 hectares (16 acres) of heath and gorse were affected.

Firefighters from the neighbouring counties of Surrey and Sussex were brought in to assist. The fire was extinguished just after 2130 BST.

The cause is being investigated.
