Suspicious fire at electricity sub-station in Kent

A fire at an electricity sub-station in Kent is being treated as suspicious.

Police and fire crews were called to the EDF site in Gas Road, Sittingbourne, just before 1300 BST.

Thick black smoke was seen coming from the site, but the fire was quickly extinguished and there was no danger to the public, police said.

It is thought the fire may have been started by someone cutting through wires. Crime scene officers are due to carry out a forensic investigation.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious or has any information is asked to contact Kent Police.
