A neighbour, believed to be in her 60s, rescued one of the children from the property on Warley Road, Bispham.

Six fire crew rescued the remaining children after a 999 call at 1015 BST.

he children who have all been described as "toddlers" were given oxygen by fire officers at the scene.

They were taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital along with the neighbour, their mother and grandfather to be treated for smoke inhalation.

It took three appliances 30 minutes to bring the blaze, which started in the kitchen, under control.

A Fire service spokesman said the children's mother had run out of the house to raise the alarm.

Crew members wearing breathing apparatus discovered two children in a loft bedroom and another in a downstairs front room.

Crew manager Robert McGregor said: "They were extremely lucky to have survived as there was extensive smoke throughout the property.

"Fortunately they were all conscious and breathing and we were able to administer oxygen at the scene."
