Fire tackled at Campsie recycling plant

  • 7-5-2010

Up to 30 firefighters have put out a blaze at a recycling plant on the outskirts of Londonderry.

The fire at City Industrial Waste in Campsie broke out shortly after 0400 BST on Sunday.

Local residents were advised to keep their doors and windows closed. Police officers were also at the scene on the Mobuoy Road.

There have been a number of fires at the site in recent months.

Earlier, Fire Service Group Commander Eamon Gallagher said: "We brought along four pumping appliances and one aerial appliance and we've been at that ever since.

"Hopefully we can get this wrapped up today quite easily because we actually tackled it very quickly today and got into it.

"It's not as big as what a previous one was."
