Two crews and an animal rescue team helped the cow to safety A cow had to be put in a harness and winched from a swimming pool after it escaped from a field in Dorset.
Firefighters were called to a cottage in Motcombe, near Shaftesbury, at 0930 BST.
The animal, named Daisy by rescuers, had found its way into the grounds of the neighbouring holiday cottage and is thought to have fallen in the water.
It was put in a harness and sedated by a vet before being raised using the farmer's hydraulic lifting gear.
'Drunken fashion'Michael Stead, group manager with Dorset Fire and Rescue Service, said the farmer discovered the cow in the pool in the morning and called them.
Mr Stead said: "We tried to get it out but it went round the pool a few times. It's quite hard to get hold of a cow that doesn't want to be caught.
"At one point it actually seemed quite happy in there."
It was eventually lifted out checked over by the vet before being returned to the field with the other cows.
"It was a bit wobbly on its feet [from the sedation] and wondered off in a drunken fashion," Mr Stead said.
"The farmer was very pleased and it was certainly the first time he had had one of his cows in a swimming pool."
Two fire crews from Shaftesbury, two special rescue teams from Poole and Weymouth and an animal rescue team from Poole worked with the farmer to retrieve the animal.
