Mr Mauger said having barbeques in the wrong place could cause fires

The Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service has asked islanders to take simple precautions to prevent fires over the summer months.

Andy Mauger, community fire safety manager, asked islanders to take extra care in the hot weather.

He said cigarettes, bonfires near dry vegetation and having barbeques in the wrong place could cause fires.

Mr Mauger said: It's natural for people to want to enjoy the weather... we're just asking them to take extra care."
