Men rescued from motorboat fire off the Kent coast

The men were stranded off the Isle of Sheppey

Three men have been rescued from their stricken motorboat off the Kent coast after a fire broke out in the engine.

The crew, one aged 42 and two 21-year-olds, extinguished the fire but the engine was damaged beyond repair.

The Whitstable lifeboat assisted the men who had run into trouble near the entrance to the Swale off the Isle of Sheppey on Friday evening.

The RNLI said the vessel was towed to Whitstable Harbour and the men were unharmed.
