Jockeys appeal fund to provide housing for riders

  • 5-23-2010

Some of the money raised after a fire which killed two jockeys near Malton, North Yorkshire, is to be used to create accommodation for young riders.

About £140,000 has been collected in an appeal set up by the Racing Welfare charity after the deaths of Jamie Kyne, 18, and Jan Wilson, 19, in September.

The charity said some money would go towards housing for apprentice jockeys.

Peter Brown, of Brotherton, North Yorkshire was convicted on Thursday of the manslaughter of the two jockeys.

Mr Kyne, 18, from County Galway, in the Irish Republic, and Jan Wilson, 19, from Forfar in Angus, died in the fire at flats on 5 September.

Brown was cleared of murdering the two jockeys in an arson attack. Sentencing has been adjourned by Leeds Crown Court.
