In Morpeth alone 1,000 properties were affected

The first Northumberland wide fair dedicated to educating people about flooding, has taken place.

Areas around Morpeth and Rothbury were badly hit in September, 2008, when a month's rainfall fell in one day.

The Flood Fair was opened by Berwick MP, Sir Alan Beith at the Dr Thomlinson School in Rothbury on Saturday.

The event was established to educate people about the risks of flooding and to provide guidance on ways to be prepared for the future.

It was organised by the Northumberland Community Flooding Partnership (NCFP)

Flood experts were on hand to answer questions and demonstrate the latest in protection equipment.

Lynne Dunleavy from NCFP has been working with high-risk communities.

She said: "Our aim is to build resilience so that communities are much better informed and prepared to cope with future flooding."
