Helicopter water bombs Cromarty moor fire

  • 5-22-2010

A helicopter has been used to water bomb a large moor fire in the Highlands.

Smoke from the blaze at the Sutors of Cromarty could be seen from Nairn, on the opposite shores of the Moray Firth.

The fire on gorse and heath started at about 2100 BST on Thursday, but was brought under control by firefighters.

However, fire crews from Cromarty, Fortrose and Inverness were called back at 0500 BST to bring a fresh outbreak under control.
