A woman is due to appear in court later charged with murder after two of her children died in a fire in Derbyshire.

Niamh and Cayden Maynard, aged five and two, died at their home in the Fairfield area of Buxton, Derbyshire, on 23 April.

Their mother, Fiona Adams, 23, has been charged with two counts of murder, the attempted murder of her eight-month-old son Kiernan and with arson.

She is expected to appear before Chesterfield magistrates on Friday.

The 23-year-old, who was treated for burns in hospital, jumped to safety from a bedroom window with her son Kiernan.

She was arrested on 30 April.

The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission because officers went to the house on the evening of the fire after reports of a disturbance in the garden.

A 17-year-old youth arrested in connection with the fire has been ruled out as a suspect.
