Police said one pupil was airlifted to hospital after the crash at Hatton

A man and a woman died after a collision between a school coach and a car in Warwickshire.

The pair were confirmed dead at the scene of the crash on the A4177 between Hatton and Hatton Park at about 1600 BST, Warwickshire Police said.

A third adult, a woman, was also seriously hurt, while a 16-year-old pupil boy was knocked unconscious and had to be cut free from the wreckage.

Four other pupils were treated for minor injuries.

The remaining 16 were allowed home after being checked over by paramedics.

'Significant injuries'

The coach was carrying 21 secondary school children from Alyesford and Myton schools in Warwick.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the coach had hit a tree after the collision with the car.

"Two adults suffered significant multiple injuries in the crash and were both confirmed dead at the scene," she said.

"A woman from the car sustained chest and abdominal injuries and was transferred by land ambulance to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire."

Ch Insp Lucy Sewell, of Warwickshire Police, said: "We will be thoroughly investigating the scene of this collision to try to find out the circumstances surrounding how it occurred.

"At this time our thoughts are with the families of those who have lost their lives and we will be ensuring they receive the full support of our family liaison officers."
