Grounded bulker is blown up....The 44,527dwt Panamaian tanker 'New
Carissa' was destroyed by the US Navy off the coast of Oregon after its
tanks were ruptured when it struck a sandbank. The weather made it
difficult to control the spill and the decision was taken to burn off
the 140,000galls of oil and diesel because of the potential
environmental threat.
