Rolls Royce has secured a six hundred and thirty million pound order to
power a new fleet of super-fast transatlantic containerships The Fastship
vessels will begin trials late in 2002, will be capable of carrying 1,432
containers across the Atlantic in three to four days. Capable of operating
at up to 40 knots in sea states up to 5, the 870 ft- long vessels willl be
powered by a 'marinised' version of the Rolls Royce Trent aeroengine. The
vessels will be built in the US and operate under the US flag with US
