SUMMARY OF A SURVEY UNDERTAKEN BY THE BUREAU
TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF POLICE FORCE INVOLVEMENT
IN RESPECT OF FIRES OF DOUBTFUL ORIGIN
1.1 The Arson Prevention Bureau has recently undertaken a survey to assess the extent of police force involvement in the investigation of fires of doubtful origin in the United Kingdom. The study was carried out by means of a questionnaire circulated to all 52 police forces in the United Kingdom, of whom 49 responded. A summary of the salient features of the survey appears below.
