5.1 Brigades were, in general, divided about whether a perceived lack of resources was contributing to the increase in the number of deliberate fires. Indeed, the majority of respondents (60%) indicated that were additional resources to be made available, there were other activities which they felt deserved priority such as greater attention to statutory certification duties, more attention to general fire safety education, the continuing promotion of smoke alarms in private dwellings and the purchase of new fire-fighting equipment.
