Stores face snap fire inspections


Council officials and firefighters in the Bath area are to undertake snap inspections to check Christmas stock is not blocking corridors and fire exits.

Letters are to be sent out to more than 100 businesses in the Bath and North East Somerset Council area reminding them of their responsibilities.

A council spokesman said stores should also check their fire risk assessment documents were up-to-date.

The inspections will also check emergency exit signs are not covered.

The council said it was the first time it had worked with Avon Fire and Rescue on this initiative.
