Fire crews tackle scrapyard blaze
A scrapyard fire has forced the closure of a road and destroyed tonnes
of tyres in Nottinghamshire.
Firefighters spent Wednesday night damping down at the scrapyard on Moor
Road in Bestwood Village.
Around 50 tonnes of tyres caught fire and the smoke could be seen for
about seven miles, residents said.
Six water jets and one of Nottinghamshire's new high-volume pumps were
despatched to fight the blaze on the outskirts of Nottingham.
Hundreds of people in Bestwood, Papplewick, Linby, Rainworth and Farnsfield
were advised to close their windows to protect them against the smoke.
