Neighbours rescue woman from fire

A woman has been taken to hospital suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke after being rescued from a fire in Greater Manchester.

Fire crews from Gorton and Stockport were called to reports of a blaze at a flat at Bickerdike Court in Erneley Close, Longsight, on Monday night.

The woman, who has not been named, was rescued by neighbours prior to the firefighters' arrival.

A pile of clothes near an electric fire is believed to have started the blaze.
