Three are rescued from house fire

A mother and her young daughter have been rescued from a house fire in Wiltshire.

Firefighters were called to the home in Swan Drive, Staverton near Trowbridge after the woman reported she was trapped by smoke in the stairwell.

One person was rescued from the ground floor before the pair were rescued from the second floor.

A Wiltshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said the fire was thought to have been started by smoking materials.

He added: "The occupants were alerted by smoke alarms on Saturday evening.

"The caller went to the top floor to find her daughter and remained there due to smoke in the staircase.

"The cause of the fire in the ground floor lounge is believed to have been accidental."

All three were treated for the effects of smoke by paramedics.
