Elderly woman rescued from fire

An 84-year-old woman is recovering in hospital after being rescued from a fire at her home in Wirral.

Firemen carried the woman from the lounge of her bungalow on Woodlands Road in Irby just after 1830 GMT on Thursday.

She was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital by ambulance after she was found to be suffering from the effects of smoke.

The lounge of the property was severely damaged by the fire and the rest of the house was smoke damaged.
