Woman in hospital after flat fire

An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after a flat fire in Alloa.

Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service were called to the first floor property on Mary Stevenson Drive at about 0550 GMT.

The woman, who has not been named, is being treated at Stirling Royal Infirmary.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze by phone calls from members of the public. It took more than five hours for the fire to be extinguished.

A spokesman for the brigade said: "When fire crews arrived at the scene the property was well alight.

"The fire appears to have caused a lot of damage to the flat."
