Bus welded to road following fire

Drivers faced delays on one of the main routes into London on Wednesday morning after a double-decker bus caught fire and became welded to the A12 westbound.

The road was closed between the Redbridge and Greenman roundabouts, after the bus became stuck to the ground at about 2330 GMT on Tuesday.

Police said one lane has reopened but the inside lane will remain closed.

No-one was injured as the bus was empty and returning to its garage. The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

No other vehicles were involved.

Scotland Yard said the road was closed following the fire, which has been extinguished, while the bus was being removed. A large diesel spillage is being cleared up and the road will need resurfacing.

The London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service were at the scene.
