Blaze damages ground floor flat

Two people have been taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation after a fire in a ground floor flat in Lancashire.

Firefighters and two appliances were called out to tackle the blaze on Mersey Road, South Shore, Blackpool, in the early hours of the morning.

The flat was severely damaged by fire and neighbouring properties to the side and above suffered smoke damage.

The cause of the fire, which started just before 0130 GMT, is not yet known.
