Substation blaze cuts off power

More than 1,800 properties and businesses in Northamptonshire have been without power overnight after a fire in an electricity substation.

Fire crews were called to the blaze in Castle Lane, Wellingborough, just before midnight on Thursday.

The nearby Castle Theatre was affected by smoke. The electricity substation was severely damaged by the fire.

Most of the properties and businesses had their electricity restored by the early hours.

Fire investigators are trying to establish the cause of the blaze.
