Fire delays isles mail deliveries

Royal Mail has warned of delays in the delivery of post following a blaze at its sorting office in Stornoway.

Seventeen staff were evacuated from the building after a fire broke out on Tuesday morning.

A spokesman said there would be no mail into Stornoway on Wednesday and staff would attempt to salvage and deliver what post they could from the building.

The peak Christmas mail bag for Stornoway is expected in the first week in December.

In the meantime, Royal Mail said it was looking for alternative accommodation.
