Fire crews tackle abattoir blaze

About 50 firefighters spent nearly four hours tackling a blaze at an abattoir in Surrey.

The fire, which started at about 2100 GMT on Tuesday, destroyed about a third of a floor of the two-storey Chitty's Abattoir in Guildford.

Firefighters are still damping down the building on the Slyfield Industrial Estate.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the blaze was not known and a fire investigation had been launched.
