Prince's plane in landing alert
A plane carrying Prince Andrew has been involved in an emergency as it
came into land at Edinburgh Airport.
The pilot had to call for help because of problems with the elevator
trim on the Hawker Siddeley HS-125 executive jet at about 1715 GMT on
Tuesday.
Seven fire engines were sent to the terminal but were soon stood down
as the plane landed safely.
The jet was taking the prince from RAF Lossiemouth in Moray to an engagement
in the Scottish capital.
Prince Andrew was expected to attend a dinner at Holyroodhouse hosted
by Scottish Development International.
Fire crew
The prince's press secretary said: "The aircraft experienced a jammed
elevator trim.
"The pilot made a precautionary distress call since the condition
could have resulted in the controls becoming heavy during landing.
"The landing, at 5.35pm, was uneventful. A full fire crew turned
out at Edinburgh Airport.
"His Royal Highness and the crew and passengers were at no stage
in any risk."
A Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman confirmed seven
fire engines had been sent to the airport but had not been required to
take any action.
